The Eden Prairie High School gymnastics team posted its highest score of its season last Thursday in a 143.075-137.075 win over Edina.
The highlight — er, actually, highlights — of the meet was that Eden Prairie counted scores of 36 or higher in three of its four rotations.
Eden Prairie would also place 12 scores in the top 15 (three places in each of the four events, plus three for the all-around).
Kenzi Kluge won the all-around competition with a score of 37.42.
“A career high high-school score,” added Eden Prairie coach Kirsten Lindsay.
The victory ran Eden Prairie’s dual-meet record to a perfect 4-0.
On Saturday, Eden Prairie would follow Thursday’s good fortune with a slice of humble pie.
Without mincing words, Eden Prairie counted its worst bar score of the season.
That’s the bad news. The good news is that Eden Prairie followed its worst score with its best score, posting a 37.1 on beam.
Not only is 37.1 its highest beam score of the season, 37.1 is its highest score on any rotation this season.
“We rocked it,” said Lindsay. “We haven’t scored a 37 on beam in years.
“We did exactly what you need to do to put up a big score,” she said. “It’s starts with your first girl up and builds to a show stopper. If I remember correctly, Kenzi (Kluge) finished with 9.7.”
When asked about her team’s bar score, Lindsay reluctantly blamed judging.
“The judging was harder than it typically is,” she said, “and it’s not just me saying that, all of the coaches were saying that.”
To prove her point, she mentions her team’s floor score, 34.1.
“We haven’t scored lower than 36 all season,” she said, “and we didn’t have any falls.”
Yet, Eden Prairie rocked beam.
Go figure.

Tuesday, Eden Prairie was scheduled to close its Lake Conference competition with a home meet against Minnetonka.
If Eden Prairie beats the Skippers, Eden Prairie is the Lake Conference champion. Lose to the Skippers and Eden Prairie shares the title with Wayzata.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, Eden Prairie competes in the Park of Cottage Grove Invitational.
