WWE Will Be Unable To Replace The Miz During His Absence From TV

WWE took the Intercontinental Championship off The Miz on this week’s Raw and put it on Roman Reigns, and there was plenty of logic behind the title change.

For Reigns, it cemented his place in history as a grand slam winner, meaning that he’s now won four different titles in WWE: The Intercontinental, US, tag team, and WWE Championships. It also provided The Shield with an unforgettable show-closing moment as Reigns’ victory signified an important step in his evolution as a top babyface. Why? Because his run with The Shield and victory over a hated heel like The Miz has him receiving more cheers than at any point in recent memory.

But for The Miz, there was more to him losing his coveted Intercontinental title than meets the eye.

According to PWInsider.com (h/t WrestlingInc), The Miz lost the title (and was put through a table by The Shield after Raw went off the air) as a way to write him off TV:

Roman Reigns defeated The Miz for the WWE Intercontinental Title on…RAW due to The Miz taking time off for a movie, according to PWInsider.

It’s believed that The Miz will be taking some time off soon to film the next movie in WWE Studios’ The Marine franchise. Miz has appeared in the last three Marine movies. There is currently no timetable for his return and…RAW was his final appearance until the movie is finished.

Much like John Cena, The Miz finds himself developing into one of WWE’s most mainstream stars. In addition to his budding movie career, he has a recurring role on Total Divas and is is now hosting MTV’s The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars after hosting the reunion show for The Challenge XXX: Dirty 30, making him arguably the most recognizable full-timer in the company outside of perhaps Roman Reigns.

That’s why, even since way back in 2013, WWE has recognized The Miz as a fantastic representative for the company. That’s when PWInsider.com (h/t WrestlingInc) reported that "the feeling is that he is one of their best talkers and does a great job representing WWE with promotional and charity work." Thus, WWE has made The Miz one of WWE’s go-to guys in those two departments, proving how important he has become as an ambassador for the company.

Likewise, The Miz has proven to be a key cog in the WWE machine on-screen.

With Brock Lesnar no longer a full-fledged heel and Braun Strowman recently turning babyface, The Miz has become the No. 1 heel on WWE’s flagship show, Monday Night Raw, where he’s played a pivotal role in the reunion of The Shield and has been doing some of the best promo work of his career. There is actually data that indicates that The Miz is one of WWE’s biggest stars as a villain, too.
